The right table size comes down to two numbers: how many people you seat regularly, and how much room the chairs need to move. Here is the short version we walk every custom customer through.

Seats first

Allow about 24 inches of table edge per person. Four people sit comfortably at 48 inches, six at 72, eight at 96. Round and oval tables seat one to two more than their length suggests because there are no corners to fight over.

Then the room

Leave at least 36 inches between the table edge and the nearest wall or furniture — that is what a pulled-out chair needs. If people walk behind seated guests, make it 44.

When custom makes sense

If your room lands between standard sizes, that is exactly what made-to-order is for. We regularly build tables an inch narrower or a foot longer than catalog sizes — the workshop doesn’t mind, and the room will thank you.
